Happy Halloween!
We--Kelly, Kevin, David and myself--put together a Halloween/harvest/Day of the Dead diorama to welcome our (non-existent) trick-or-treaters. (Do children not trick-or-treat anymore? Or is that just in our neighborhood?)
This happy little fellow is carved from a radish (!) that we grew in our garden:
It's about the size of a large grapefruit. He's cute, no?
We also made little figures out of more radishes and beets (and lots of toothpicks) and carved a big pumpkin to round out the lot. A few candles and an advantageous spot on Kelly and Kevin's porch and we had a little altar all readied.
(You can't really see much detail with my cell phone pic, but you get the general idea.)

I love your radish Jack O'Lantern ! When I was a child we used a turnip to make them. That was really hard to cut...I still have a scar from it.
Happy Halloween...No trick or treaters here either!
awesome, chica! happy D.O.D!
we dressed up and went out last night for the first time since never, and our little town was PACKED with kids and grownups! it was kind of amazing really. I thought no one treated anymore either. It's all about where you live I guess. xo
Hi Helen! Happy Halloween!
Turnips would be cool to try using. I mean, what else are you going to do, eat them? :)
No trick or treaters = more candy for me!
Hola, Laurita!
What did you dress up as for Halloween? Did you get any good candy? Man, I'd kill for a big bag of treats today!
;)
