That Was Friday
I did something today that I haven't done in awhile: I booked airline tickets!
When Dave goes out to Minnesota for business, I'm going to fly out at the end of his work week and we'll look around for a few days and then fly back to Albuquerque together. I went online looking for hotels and such, and sometime this week I'll book our accommodations. I'm looking forward to a getaway.
I've got an idea for another short trip sometime in August. I'm thinking it would be nice to go to Portland or Seattle. Or maybe head off in the other direction, to New York. Hmmm....I've got a bit of planning to do!
Friday was kind of a lopsided day. I couldn't sleep very well at all the night before (having had coffee in the afternoon), so I was exhausted when I woke up. I put Dave's lunch together and then thought I'd go back to bed after he left for work. After laying in bed for an hour without falling asleep (not an unusual occurrence), I finally just got up, had breakfast (a banana, cup of coffee, and an egg on a slice of toast), and got dressed. I had some errands to run.
I went out to the co-op very early and bought a few days worth of groceries as well as a big bouquet of flowers. (I like to have flowers on the kitchen table from time to time to brighten things up.) After the grocery store, I went by the vet's office to pick up some cans of the prescription diet that we're trying out on Gray Kitty. I came home, put everything away, and had some lunch. After lunch, I lay down for a nap.
While I slept, I had the strangest dream, all about food and company and a maze-like underground structure. (I often dream of being underground.) The strange thing about it was that I woke up in the middle of my nap (someone had texted me) and when I fell asleep again, I went right back to the same dream. It was like my subconscious mind had something really important to tell me. We'll see how the message pans out, I suppose.
When I woke up, it was fairly late, around 2:00 p.m. I went outside, got the mail, and started watering the garden and patio. In between trips outside to move the hose around, I started dinner.
Dinner was a kind of tomato, onion, garlic, basil, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil topping for pasta (similar to a bruschetta topping). Dave had whole-wheat fusilli and I opted for fettucini-style shirataki. To go with our dinner, I also made a version of a Tuscan kale salad, from a recipe I saw on The New York Times website. I skipped making the toasted bread crumb topping for it, but I did make a lemon juice and olive oil dressing with a bit of oregano and Parmesan cheese added to it.
After dinner, we ran the Roomba and then I steam mopped the floors. I love that steam mop, but I'm not really convinced that it's picking up dirt. Maybe it's just steaming it clean.
