Thursday

Morning

I got up with Dave this morning, around 6:30, and put his lunch together. I had done most of it last night after dinner, but I put together a small bag of baby carrots, snap peas, and cucumbers as well as some bing cherries to put into his lunch. While I was at it, I made up a sandwich and some veggies for myself, since I'm going to be out of the house today.

After Dave left for work, I thought I might go back to bed but then decided against it. I ate breakfast (egg on toast, banana) and had a cup of coffee, then started prepping dinner. I decided to make vegetable soup for dinner, so I chopped and sauteed onions and garlic, then added celery, carrots, red peppers, potatoes, and cabbage. I put in a can of tomatoes and then added some seasonings (soy sauce, vegan Worcestershire sauce, Better than Bouillon, roasted garlic powder, thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, and oregano). I let everything simmer away while I took a shower and got dressed. Later tonight, I'll chop up and add some red kale and either some beans or Quorn chick'n for protein.

So that's dinner sorted.

After my shower, I blow dried my hair and put on some makeup. I've got this doctor's appointment this morning and I always hate going to new doctors. I'm trying to be positive, but as a fat, minority woman, it's not my experience that doctors visits are positive things. Usually I take Dave with me, because something about a tall, middle-aged, white guy really seems to impress most doctors (and dentists and car salesmen and mechanics and so on), but today I thought I'd try it on my own again. We'll see how it goes. I'm sure I'll have a progress report later.

Late Afternoon

So it was a busy afternoon.

I went to the doctors--my new primary care physician (PCP)--and he is a big, galoot-y type who graduated from a Caribbean medical school. He is very personable but not particularly...invested (?). Like, I asked him if there were other things I could do to help with my high blood pressure, and his response was a very genial, "Well you know, there probably are other things you can do." And then we just kind of sat and smiled at each other before we moved on to other matters. So. The best I can hope for in this case is a lack of gross incompetence and perhaps a loose grip on the prescription pad when I do need some medication. We'll see. He is also Dave's new PCP (they're first visit is later this month) so I'm curious to see how they get along and what Dave's opinion of him is.

After my appointment, I came home, had a snack, and then my brother arrived. We loaded up my stuff for the yard sale into his truck and then I drove his truck (his leg was bothering him) up to my mother's house where we loaded most of her stuff into the truck and into her car.

It had already been a long day and I was tired and hot and hadn't had enough to eat all day.  We stopped at a convenience store on the way to my aunt's house and I got a can of Pringles. (I got chips both for some calories and for some salt. Yes, I'm supposed to watch my salt intake, but I've been eating a really low-salt diet and drinking a lot of water in the heat. I didn't want to end up in an unbalanced electrolyte situation, so I put a bit of salt into the system.)

We got to my aunt's house and unloaded everything. My aunt had been working all day to clear the weeds from the front of the house and to put up the tables she had. We were all hot and tired by the time we finished, so we made plans to go out early in the morning and set up.

Then my mother, brother, and I stopped by Dion's for a very late lunch before driving home again.

I got home around 5:30 and thought I would take a nap. (The caffeine in the tea I had with my late lunch had a different idea.) Dave got home a bit before 7:00 p.m. and we ran out out to the dollar store for some hangers and then to Sonic for my dinner (a vanilla cone) and some giant, icy, carbonated, caffeine-free diet sodas.

I've got to be up quite early tomorrow since my mom wants to be at my aunt's place around 6:00 a.m.

Ay yi yi.
