Lab Daze
I could not sleep last night, so I spent part of the night studying and taking online quizzes that were due this afternoon. I finally fell asleep just before Dave woke up around 6:30(?). Though that meant that he was on the hook for making his own lunch, poor thing.
I slept until about 10:30. I had breakfast (there was not much in the house, so I had part of a can of pinto beans and an apple with a couple of spoons of soy nut butter). I took a shower, got dressed, and put on some makeup.
Today was lab day, so I spent most of the afternoon prepping for the evening's lab.
I had to read a few pages (which takes me forever because I essentially outline chapters and draw diagrams into my notes, which helps me to process the information) and then watch a couple of online lectures. When it came time to watch the lectures, I kept getting an error every time I tried to play them. Last week's lectures played just fine, but this week the website decided that it needed the most absolute up-to-date version of Silverlight out there. I downloaded that, restarted my browser, and watched the lectures just before I had to leave for class.
While all that was happening, Dr. Shmoo called and asked about what was going on with my medication. (The nurse had told him about my allergic reaction.) He told me to stop taking it (which I already had) and that he would talk to me on Friday when I come in for a blood pressure check with the nurse.
So that was exciting.
At 5:00 p.m. I drove out to campus and got a parking spot just about outside the door. I'm paranoid about parking so I always leave too early; I had about 40 minutes to kill before class. I went and took one of the new study rooms and reviewed my notes for awhile, so that was helpful.
I love the new lab building, all except for the overhead fluorescent lights that give me a massive headache that is probably borderline migraine-y since I also feel nauseated when it comes on. Looking through scopes while that's happening is not fun, but my lab partner (late-twenty-something, OCD (really), and not super smart but very motivated) and I and some guy from an earlier lab who was sitting in on this lab, made it through a bunch of slides fairly quickly. One way we did was by waiting until each group had claimed their two recommended microscopes, then I went and grabbed an extra scope from the half-dozen or so still in the cabinet, so we each had one and that made things go faster.
While we were working, the instructor looked over the lab exercises we had turned in from last week--mine was deemed the best out of all her lab classes--and handed them back. I let her know about the headache situation since I'm sure it makes me seem very stone-faced and zoned out while I'm sitting there listening to her talk.
Anyway, I was out of lab in just under two hours, so that was nice.
I came home while Dave was out at the grocery store throwing random things into a cart. Despite the headache, I helped put away the groceries and then while he took the recycling and trash cans out to the curb, I made a quick garbanzo bean spread to put into sandwiches for dinner. (Well, Dave had a sandwich. I had a bit of the spread with half a tomato slices since the idea of eating bread made my migraine-y stomach not happy.)
After dinner, I changed into my jammies and came right to bed.
I'm still nursing the headache. Fun.
