Pinky Swear

This is the new hot pink background for photos. I kind of like it--although I also picked up black and a dark gray in case this color didn't work.

This is the truest (to my eye) representation of the background color. This is a darker photo (though not enhanced):

It's highly variable, I think, depending on the light conditions or flash being used. (I actually like the flash, too, because it adds a harshness to the photos that I find appealing.)

I never paid the least bit of attention to the background of a photo unless it's done poorly. Most pottery is photographed against the typical gray gradient background, but I thought that would be too dull for these pieces.

Dave took all these photos for me, thankfully. He's got a nice rig. He used the flash on some because he was outdoors (working with a portable set up) and it was late afternoon, so the light was fading fast.

I'm taking photos because I'm going to be putting some pieces up for sale on etsy soon, I hope. Maybe even in time for Halloween and Day of the Dead. If not, they'll make great Christmas gifts for a certain kind of person, don't you think?

The Day's Events

I was up quite late last night, for absolutely no good reason. I did rent a movie from Amazon Prime, CBGB, the fictionalized story of the origin of the famous club and music venue in New York City. It was interesting, if lacking a bit of soul. Alan Rickman played Hillel Kristal, the guy who started the whole ball rolling.

We slept in this morning--ate brunch--then slept in some more.  Dave hopped in the shower while I finished up the Hemingway biography--though of course we all know how that ends. (Turns out Hemingway was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital a week before he killed himself and was released from there even though his wife at the time begged the doctors to keep him in.)

We didn't even start thinking of leaving the house until the late afternoon when we decided to go to the studio. We stopped at Sonic on the way and picked up some giant icy drinks, a vanilla cone for me, and an order of mozzarella sticks for Dave. We met Judi and Crunch out for their walk and Crunch came out to hang out in the studio with us for awhile.

Judi's been trying new foods since we've been going to the gym. Tonight we were gifted one of the products of her latest attempt at a new, healthier food, a concoction of sweet potato, spinach, cheese, and maybe garbanzo beans? She found the recipe on Pinterest, thought it sounded interesting, tried it, hated it, and passed on the rest to us. They're warming in the toaster oven as we speak, so we'll see how that goes.

At the studio, I set up the photo booth and Dave took some pictures while I worked on a couple of the pieces that came out of the last firing, underglazing a bit to get them ready for the next firing.

We didn't stay long at the studio, but came straight home. Dave's practicing his clarinet and I edited the photos above.

And that was the day!

Good morning, Rosa!
Love the pink - it really makes your absolutely fantastic pieces pop. You have no idea how much I would love to see them in person. Wow!
I never went to CBGBs and I do regret it. Though by the time I went to NYC for the first time (early 80s) I missed that first wave, and never went.

Good morning, Carol!

Thanks! I'm glad you like the pink. It seems to fit the theme of the pieces to have them against something other than gray.

I can't imagine, just from the film, what CBGB must have been like. I mean, the guy let his dog run around crapping in the club. Ugh! But the music must have been something else. I would have gone for the Talking Heads alone. (I love the Talking Heads!)
