Go With It

Dave and I got little sleep last night. He came in at midnight and though I was asleep by 1:00 (and up at 4:30), he didn't get to bed until much later. I had told my mother that we would drive her to her follow up appointment in the morning, so we both were out of the house by 8:20 to pick her up.

While she went into her appointment, we went over and sat in a coffee shop and had coffee and breakfast burritos (my mother had already had her breakfast before we arrived). I had thought to bring my books along, so I sat and studied while Dave read. My mother called a few hours later and we picked her up at the hospital and stopped by a grocery store for her to pick up a few things on our way back to her place.

The night before, I was still having hives and had a scary moment when the area between my nose and upper lip started to swell. I had taken some benadryl of course, but in the morning my face was still a bit swollen. I took more benadryl (which is why Dave was driving--benadryl turns me into a zombie). But when we got home, I started in on the prescription steroid from Dr. Shmoo.

I hate the stuff. It works--I haven't had hives since I took my first dose, the first time in five weeks--but the side effects are not pleasant (mood swings, upset stomach, increased blood pressure, restlessness, and so on). I'm supposed to go for five days on a relatively small dose, but I may not do that. I haven't decided yet.

I also called around to see if I could find an allergist that could take me sooner than December 31st. Of the three I called as recommended by my doctor, one could see me in January, one in March, and one never returned my phone call. I also called my insurance company to see if they had anyone else on file and it turns out that they have a single provider for the entire state, one.

So that was fun. I love not feeling well and having to go through this rigamarole.

Anyway, after dropping my mom off at home, we also came home and I got in a nap. When I woke up I was craving Chinese food, so we went and picked up some take-out from our once-favored Chinese restaurant. The amazing cook left weeks and weeks ago and hasn't returned. The food was slightly better tonight, but still not as amazing as the amazing cook made it. Oh well.

After dinner, we did some laundry and dishes and then I started to feel tired so I went back to bed and slept for a few hours. My system is all jacked up right now. I'm just going with the flow.
