Weekendy Things

I basically spent Saturday in bed. The medication that the doctor put me on for the hives makes me crazy and I still had to take the benadryl anyway, so I just decided to embrace my sick role and stay in bed sleeping or trying to sleep (ie, surfing the internet).

Sunday I was ready to see the sun again. I woke up to a text from Judi saying that she, Paul, and their out-of-town visitors were going to Acoma pueblo and would I go up and let Crunch out sometime during the day. (Of course I said yes. I told her that we would stop by after lunch and do it.)

I took a shower and got dressed. Then I called my brother to see if he wanted us to get him anything for lunch or pick up some groceries for him. (His truck is being a broke-down thing right now, so he can't really go anywhere.) He ended up asking if we could pick him up something from Dion's, so we just decided to go have lunch at Dion's and then bring him his food.

Dion's was a mess. We got there--we thought--before the post-church crowd arrived, but we still ended up waiting over half an hour for our food. It was fine when it came, but that's a long wait for two subs and a salad. By the time we left, the place was packed with a mixture of people in church clothes and children in soccer uniforms. There were also two children's birthday parties happening, one on each side of the restaurant. We got out of there pretty quick after eating!

After lunch, we took my brother his sub and salad and chatted for a bit. Then we went up, let Crunch out to pee, gave him a bunch of biscuits,  and checked my spider (the legs were cracking, so I reinforced them and then set it up so that the legs weren't touching the ground so that they wouldn't be pulled further as it dries and shrinks). I also grabbed my anatomy and physiology coloring book which I normally keep at the studio to use as a reference, but which I decided to use at home to memorize some of the muscles for my anatomy class.

We came home after and I changed immediately into my pajamas. About an hour after that, Dave asked if I wanted to go to the office supply store so that he could buy a mouse. (His old one somehow snuck into the laundry and got an unexpected bath.) I got dressed and we went out. After picking up the mouse, we stopped to get giant fizzy drinks, then we hit the grocery store.

We had bean and cheese nachos for dinner, then I spent a little time in my art journal using some of the acrylic paints from a big kit of art supplies that Kelly gave me. It's kind of nice to have small tubes of acrylic paints in a kit since it means that I don't have to haul out the drawer of craft acrylics that I have in the closet. Normally if I want to use acrylics, I grab a handful of colors from my stash at a time, but this way I have about twenty colors in tubes to work with. I've been mixing the paints up on the page and turning them into washes of color using a big brush and lots of water. I have an idea in my head of using the painted pages as background for collages. The acrylics are very matte and I'm curious how they'll work with other media and with the matte gel medium that I use to glue down collage elements. It's fun to have new art supplies that I can use with abandon!

After awhile, I put aside my paints and decided to fall asleep to a background of episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. It gets to be pretty weird sometimes, this show, especially considering it was made in the 1950s. There's one episode where their six- or seven-year old son claims that he was attacked by a giant woodpecker and the dad pretends to go out and shoot the bird with a shotgun. That was a strange thing to listen to as I was drifting off.

Anyway, I did get a little sleep, but I woke up around 1:40 in the morning (about an hour ago). And now I'm up. Yay. Maybe I'll have some breakfast.
