Good Bye, Vacation! Good Bye!

Well, my sweet vacation time came to an end this evening with my first class, the second part of the anatomy and physiology lecture that I took last semester.

It was kind of a waste of a class tonight as the instructor did nothing more than read us the syllabus and then have everyone introduce themselves. But it did give me a chance to observe the instructor. He is Polish, I think, and speaks with a not light (but not too heavy) accent. I would guess that he is in his mid- to late-40s. He is very scattered, scattered and slow, which is not a common pairing, I don't think. I spent some time writing down random things he said because he tends to say things like, "Yes. Yes, you know. But, no. No. Well, maybe no. But also maybe yes." He also seems very nice, though, which is good. And I was impressed that he remembered by name several students that he has had in the past. That is also a good thing.

But I am not impressed by having the syllabus read to me. I used to routinely skip the first day of classes because of this, but I decided on perfect attendance this semester, so I didn't do that.

Anyway, so that was class. Maybe next week we'll actually get around to covering some of the material.

After class, Dave picked me up and we went to our favorite Japanese restaurant for ramen. I had tonkotsu ramen and Dave has miso ramen. I was very hungry, so we also split an order of harumaki (which oddly included mashed potato in the filling) and edamame. On the way out, we bought a box of Pocky from a stack near the register and we shared them driving home.

Once home, the sugar fest continued with some milk chocolate and a shared cream cheese-filled, cherry jam-topped donut. It must be PMS week, because I have been craving, but craving sugar.

I finished watching the last episodes of Flight of the Conchords and ended up enjoying it so much that I immediately looked for other things featuring the same actors. I watched a movie called People, Places, Things that featured Jemaine Clement, and then (tonight) I purchased What We Do in the Shadows, a vampire mockumentary that he is also in. The other actor, it turns out, hasn't really appeared in much else, but has been busy as a musical director for other films and even won an Oscar for that work. (It was for one of the new Muppet movies, which I haven't and probably won't watch.)

This is very odd, but What We Do in the Shadows was on this afternoon. I only caught about the last 10 minutes of it...but what are the chances of that happening?!!

Ramen...better you than me! Pocky I can get behind though!

I hope your Prof turns out to be okay!

Hi Helen!

How funny! It is a clever movie--but disturbing in parts. I'm not a big horror fan, but it was fun.

Dave is like F. He loves ramen. Me? I ate ramen maybe three time the whole time I lived in Japan, but it's good in winter every once in awhile. (That, plus the Japanese restaurant we go to only serves ramen for dinner and that was better than coming home after class and cooking.)

Speaking of winter, it sounds like you are truly in the thick of it, winter-wise. I'm kind of jealous that you're getting so much snow--but I'm definitely not jealous that you have to shovel all that snow! It's good exercise though, I hear. :)
