The Garden. Finally!
Friday afternoon, Dave came home a bit early from work so we went to the plant nursery and basically picked out our garden.
We came home with too many tomato plants (something like a dozen), four kinds of peppers, Japanese eggplant, spaghetti squash, basil, cilantro, lemongrass, and who knows what else.
We also bought a few ornamentals and flowers, but only a few, because we were focused on vegetables.
We also had a few strawberries from Kelly and a handful of starts that Dave traded worms for with one of his friends.
This afternoon, we plotted everything out. This was part of one of our raised beds:
While Dave planted tomatoes, I started in on the seeds. I planted borage, mesclun mix, radishes, sunflowers, beets, and corn.
And we got about half of our starters planted before it got dark. Tomorrow, we'll finish up the remaining tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and strawberries. In among those, I'll put in some carrots, more radishes and beets, and possibly a few beans.
The cats joined us outside, of course. This little nerd decided that the place for a lie down was inside one of the tomato cages.
So he climbed in. I'm surprised he fit through the holes, he's such a chunky monkey.
Isn't he handsome?
We didn't plant until late in the day, after a late lunch at a new place, a vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant. The food was beyond amazingly bad. But the waiter/owner was really charming and absolutely gorgeous to boot. That alone might warrant a return trip.
After lunch, we swung by Target to pick up a few things. I bought a pair of sunglasses, the first I've had in over a decade. They will be necessary if I decide to start wearing contact lenses more frequently. We also picked up some cat food and I forget what all else.
Then we came home, slathered ourselves in sunscreen, and got to work in the garden.
