Last night, Dave and I stood in the driveway as dusk turned to night and we watched a trio of small bats flittering around, catching insects no doubt.
I've been keeping track of these little brushes with nature recently.
The day before, it was a little ladybug larva (one of my very favorite type of insects) that I encountered on Kelly and Kevin's porch. I moved her to the garden, where hopefully she will find plenty to eat.

The day before that, a vivid green praying mantis looked down at me from a very tall sunflower that is growing--a volunteer!--on the patio.

The sunflowers have attracted lots of insects this summer, lots of different kinds of bees especially. And the garden is home to at least three really gorgeous orb weavers.
Our feeder supports a squabbling trio of hummingbirds. One of which is very brave. She flew up to the screen door the other day and hovered, just staring me down or trying to see past me into the casita. I love those little birds. I hope someday, if such things are possible, to be reincarnated as one.
Tomorrow I take the test that will partly determine an important chunk of my future. (If I fail it, I can retake it, no worry.)
Fast approaching is the anniversary of a near complete nervous breakdown I had a year ago. I survived it, though some days I wasn't sure that was going to be the case. I want to celebrate. But first things first.
