I was up in the night for several hours and finally fell asleep again after 5:00 a.m. I got up again around 9:30 and made coffee and sat down at my sewing machine to sew.
I worked on my ojos de dios pieces for awhile--on and off all day actually, around other events and outings--and finally finished the topper around 11:00 p.m. I experimented with varying the sizes a bit, making one just slightly wider, one larger, one just a smidge narrower.

Those borders, man, probably took longer to sew than anything, but it gave me the chance to use up the extra strips I had cut. It's going to be a wall hanging after all. It needs a bit of clean up, to remove the stray threads scattered on it, but I like the wonkiness and the colors against the black background. Now all it needs is batting and a back and a binding. . .
I realized that my selection of photos yesterday seemed a paltry bit of work after all the sewing I've done--but I also didn't photograph the 20 or so quilt blocks I made as I went along, just to learn what goes on in traditional quilt blocks (how they're laid out, how they're cut, how they're put together). Anyway, there's lots of projects going on that I haven't photographed yet.
At 11:30, I got up from my sewing maching and got ready for my day of outings. Today's lipstick was Sephora Rouge Shine lipstick in the shade "so cute!" (a kind of peachy pink color, which, who knows how that even snuck into my collection).
Dave and I picked up my brother around 1:00 and ran a quick errand and then the three of us met my mother for lunch. It was a kind of late lunch and I only had a half-sandwich and salad because Dave and I had planned to have dinner with some friends a few hours later.
We met up with friends (at their house) and had dinner. We met with them a couple of days ago for dinner, but this was dinner plus Dave's chance to check out a guitar that his friend said he wanted to sell. Dave ended up buying the guitar and his friend gave him a stand and some books of music for beginners. So now Dave's collection of musical instruments consists of his old violin, a trumpet, his clarinet, a keyboard, several recorders, and the guitar. We are one tambourine and a caravan away from a gypsy lifestyle.
We came home kind of late and I sewed awhile and Dave tooled around on his new toy.
#22:
We had plans for an early movie with Judi and Paul, so we lazed around until we had to rush to get in showers and get ready. (Today's lipstick was initially N.Y.C's Sheer Red, but that old cheap thing had gone rancid (!) so I switched to NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Transylvania, a deep violet.)
We met up at the theater and saw The Last Jedi in 3D. I really loved it. I loved that at least half the pilots and almost all the military leadership among the rebels were women. (And it wasn't just young women. There were middle aged-plus women.) I mean, when was the last time you saw a film where two military leaders talked strategy and it was two women? Never. Like, never ever. So the film passed the Bechdel Test in spades.
After the movie, we went for dumplings. I like dumplings, but they aren't a meal exactly so later on I had a second dinner that consisted of my last tamale and an avocado.
We came home via the giant fizzy drink store and, yes, not one but TWO fabric stores. I have an idea for a pond water quilt with blocks of microscopic pond water creatures, like volvox and amoebas. We bought fabric with that in mind.
When we got home, though, I was too tired to start a new project. I idly sewed some blocks using strips left over from the ojo de dios blocks, but then even that was too much, so I came to bed.
