The Edge Effect (Day #14)

I spent the night with the puppies. I'm not sleeping well. Again. This is the story of my life--or the exhausted background to it anyway. I was in bed at 8:00 and up at 10:30. Couldn't get back to sleep until 3:00 or so and was up again at 6:00. Fed the dogs. Had a cup of coffee. Finally dozed off again around 8:00 and slept another two hours. On paper, it's seven and a half hours of sleep, but in reality it's three longish naps in place of a good night's sleep.

I put my time to good use, however. I cut out the backing for an envelope pillow that I made for David out of denim and those crazy floor sweeping quilt blocks that I've been making out of the water-soluble interfacing. Then I went back to bed for awhile.

When I finally got up for good, I had a nice long shower, and then finished sewing up the pillow. (It's in the washing machine right now as it's done in a rag quilt style and the wash and dry will promote fraying.)

It's a beautiful, beautiful day. Dave said that while he was bringing the trash bins from the curb that he saw big grasshoppers out. It's been so warm that the creatures and plants that normally would have died back when it froze are all still around and thriving. Even the trees are budding out. Thank you, global warming. (Sorry, polar bears.)

Dave had planned on lunch out with a friend, but before that we ran out to Starbucks and the co-op and grabbed a coffee and a salad and sushi for my lunch. When we got home, I had the sushi and half the salad and got back to sewing. I made a sunglasses case, just experimenting with some of my new fabrics and fusible foam that I have. I'm not so experienced at sewing fusible foam and the case has a slight twist as a result, but it's not horrible. I'll make another using batting instead of fusible foam and see how that turns out.

Today's lipstick is NYX Butter Lipstick in the shade Moonlit Night (deep burgundy). I'm using it instead of a lip balm, really, even though it's very goth-y and far too dark for my otherwise unmade-up face.

Tonight's plan for dinner is a red quinoa and roasted veggie hash with the addition of sauteed onions and beet greens and avocado.

And maybe some more sewing.
