Another Day
I had two finals yesterday. One was a very high B--like, within a few tenths of a point of an A--and the other was an A.
I came home to an email about my final rotation, which is going to be in the emergency department of a local hospital. It was about the last place I was interested in going (EDs are a young person's game), but I've only got to hang on through seven shifts and I'm sure I'll learn a lot. I emailed the man I'll be working with and heard back this morning. He suggested a text for me to buy to sort of get a jump on the work, so I ordered a used copy from Amazon that should be here on Saturday. I read the first few chapters online after I ordered it. There was a lot about how to talk down violent patients and a few disturbing images of gunshot wounds. Once upon a time, that would have been my jam, but now? Not so much. I had asked for a spot on a wound care team or in the OR, but oh well. Like I said, I'll learn a lot wherever I end up.
Things are quickly winding down academically and soon I'll start job hunting. I may take something a couple of days a week while I study for the licensing exam, which I'll take in September or October. I don't anticipate having any problems with the exam, but I still want to be as prepared as possible.
Which means that I've pretty much spent the last day and a half in bed, sleeping.
I did rouse myself yesterday (after my exams, I came home and took a nap) so that Dave and I could go out for a celebratory, post-finals dinner at the barbeque place that we both like. They have a decent mac'n'cheese for him and I had a combo plate of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork (most of which I brought home).
What haven't I written about?
I'm staying away from politics because I am furious. I've been giving money to various places that work for causes I support, but my blood pressure cannot handle the stupidity of what's going on. This country has had a decent run and now it's coming to an end. We live in a purple state that is heading towards blue, but it's not enough for me. I've had enough. I told David yesterday that I'm going to renew my passport and that we need to start seriously thinking of where we're going.
Dave is working from home now. (He's been setting up at the kitchen table and he and Gray Kitty keep each other company all day.) I didn't write about the gifts I got from NYC when Dave returned last week. I got a whole slew--like, a whole shopping bag full--of blank notebooks and a pen from Moleskine. (There's a Moleskine shop in the building where Dave's new company's offices are.) I also got chocolates from Jacques Torres--white and milk bars and a box of bonbons that are all distant memories now. They're danger chocolates, for sure.
The days have been topping 100 recently and we run the AC pretty much continuously. I haven't been out much during the day, but the sunsets have been beautiful.

I’d leave this country in a hot minute if I were you - we really can’t as we are too old for applying for citizenship anywhere. But we are heading to Europe (Denmark and Germany ) in October- maybe we’ll overstay.
