We Live in the City of Dreams
Monday:
After yesterday's crazy rain, it was a pleasure to leave the house and step into the strange humidified world just before dawn. I got to school too early, but I had been up since about 2:30, after a dream that it was 2:00 in the afternoon and I had missed my classes. After that, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I just stayed up and caught up on some reading.
I hate Mondays.
Dave started his new job today and I figured I'd be nice and prep him some lunch, so while I read, I made some bulgur and put together a burrito bowl (bulger, black and pinto beans, salsa, cheese, avocado, sour cream) for each of us. He's working from home, but it's still nice to have a lunch prepped and ready to go.
I was first to campus this morning and was later joined by my usual study buddies. We have an early morning lecture--complete with a quiz--and then a break, then a later lecture. After, we stayed to talk to one of the instructors, as we have a paper due on the 18th.
I came home after and took a nap.
When he was done with work for the day, Dave and I went out to run errands and grab dinner. We stopped by the pet store, then we had a quick dinner at Genghis Grill (it was only okay and too expensive, but at least there were vegetables and it was fairly low sodium). After that, we went by Costco and picked up a bunch of stuff, mostly fresh fruits and veg, but also paper towels and the to-go cups I use to take my coffee to school and to the hospital. (I used to use a reusable cup, but I was constantly losing them and forgetting them in the car until the milk went sour, so now I just buy the reusable paper cups.)
Then it was time to get back to bed and not sleep.
Tuesday:
My alarm woke me up at 7:00 a.m., after about five hours of sleep. I had some coffee and then went back to bed and slept for another hour or so. I've been having crazy dreams. This morning, I was riding through the streets of London on a rickshaw with a middle eastern driver. We were going down streets, through office buildings, everything. It got weird and I woke up. I had set my alarm for 9:30, but I got up a little after 9:00.
I had a snack and studied awhile. (I have two exams tomorrow.) I was supposed to have lunch with my mother and brother so eventually I got up and got ready for that. My mother came by for me and then we dropped my brother off at his place since he wasn't feeling well. After that, she and I went to Cracker Barrel. I have been there maybe four times in my life, the last time about five years ago, also with my mother. In fact, I think every single time I've been to a Cracker Barrel--save one--was with my mother. (The time that I wasn't with my mother, I was in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, at a conference on John Milton--yes, the Paradise Lost guy--and the closest restaurant to the motel where I was staying was a Cracker Barrel.)
We had a good lunch (haddock, both of us) and then I came home to study and not study some more. (Ugh.)
