Shake It Up

It's Friday.

It was awful and cold yesterday. I ran some errands with my brother (the lab, the dentist, and of course a stop for giant fizzy drinks). After I dropped him off, I came home for a bit before it was time to go off and pick up my mother for dinner. We went off to Olive Garden and ate way too much. We shared a spinach and artichoke dip appetizer, salad, breadsticks of course, and then I had a steak with alfredo pasta and broccoli on the side. My mother had chicken alfredo and Dave had pasta alfredo with green chile and broccoli added.

My mother also took the opportunity to pass on her old sewing machine to me, a Kenmore something or other (I literally cannot find the machine name on the thing beyond that) that was top of the line about fifteen (?) years ago. She says she used it twice. Googling, I see that Janome (my sewing machine's maker) for a time made Kenmore sewing machines, so maybe it is a cousin to my little workhorse. I don't know. I do know that the thing weighs a ton and has a bunch of exciting stuff, decorative stitches and stuff, on it.

(I did check them out today, though, and ran through every decorative stitch and a few of the letters that it embroiders.)

In the afternoon, I watched/listened to an episode of Sex Education on Netflix while I painted. That show has a shaky first episode but the third episode knocked it out of the park. I hope it stays good.

While I was watching, Chris texted to see if Dave and I wanted to go to dinner with her and Grace. We did and ended up at a Vietnamese place that Dave has been wanting to try for a long time. I liked my beef pho, but everyone else was only okay on their dishes. The search for stellar Vietnamese goes on.

We came home via the co-op, where I was looking for a low-carb pizza crust that is basically cauliflower held together with some egg and nutritional yeast. I'm trying to eat lower on the carb chain to get my A1C headed in the right direction, but since my diet these days consists primarily of carbs and fat (and sometimes fats and carbs, just for variety), I need to shake things up.
