Etc.

We spent a little time at the studio today, Dave more than me as he threw and fired a bisque kiln. I showed up a few hours after he got there and painted a plate (the Kewpie doll plate).

I was a few hours behind Dave because I hadn't slept the night before, like, at all. I finally got to sleep just before 8 a.m. and then I woke up around 11 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep. I tried meditating to relax, but my brain just wouldn't shut up. Finally, I just got up, had some breakfast, showered and headed over to the studio.

You know that feeling you get when you're so tired that your brain feels stunned? I felt that all day long.

We got home around 5:00 and made dinner (another dinner of rice and tofu with a few vegetables). Then I lay down and napped for a couple of hours. Then I got up and...what have I been doing? Writing morning pages (at eight p.m. Why not?), shopping for a dupe of discontinued lipstick and a curling iron. Just essential things like that.

I have yet to make today's 365 quilt square. Yesterday's quilt square was a big cicada. On Friday, a cicada in one of the trees just outside the casita suddenly began to sing. It was like the casita got hit by a truck, it was stunningly loud. I love cicadas. I love everything about them. I like their big, scary selves and the husks they leave everywhere when they molt and I especially love the incredible din that they make. To me, cicadas singing is the sound of summer.

But what will today's square be? Dave suggested a kiln (last time we went to the studio), but I'm not trying to draw a kiln on a 5"x5" square of fabric. Maybe a Kewpie doll head? That's easy enough.

And oh! The fabric pens I have been using (Pentel Gel Fabric Pens 1.0 mm) have been discontinued. I did an online search fro them and found them at Joann's so Iordered a box of 12 along with a few other things to get to free shipping. I told Dave when I ordered them that I was sure Joann's would ship everything and backorder or cancel the pens and sure enough, a day later I got an email that everything but the pens had been shipped. (Now I'm just waiting for the email that the pens are backordered or canceled.) After that happened, I got online and ordered 12 pens (six packages with two pens each) from Amazon for about five bucks more than Joann's had the box of twelve. Hopefully Jeff Bezos's fleet of wage slaves come through. (If not, I do have other options, but I hate to change horses in the middle of a stream, so to speak.)

What else? I started watching a movie called The Courier last night and it's interesting, but very slow going. I may go watch a bit more of it after I sign off here. But first I want a snack. White rice and tofu does not stick with me for very long!
