Both Things

It's been an eventful week. I spent most of Wednesday at the ER getting checked out for the abdominal pain I've been having for a few weeks now. They found nothing and all my labs were perfect. So something is going on, but nothing that could be diagnosed with the tools they had at the ER. I have to follow up with gastroenterology--and of course their next appointment is in November. So I'll either be dead of whatever by then or the pain will have resolved and I won't need the appointment. This sucks.

I came home and ate a bowl of rice and soft tofu (trying to eat a soft, bland diet) and went to bed and slept. And slept. And slept. I also slept away most of Thursday.

Last night, we had a bit of a bright spot. We were out for a drive and I asked Dave if he wanted to go check out a Japanese sweets shop that was opened by the people who run our favorite ramen shop (that we haven't been to since the pandemic started, almost eighteen months ago). I thought they might have something vegan and easy on my stomach. They were open and we bought some dorayaki (I ate the pancake part and gave Dave the anko part). More importantly, we got to chat with the young woman who is married to the owner. I was really touched that she remembered us after not seeing us for so long. She told us that the pandemic has been hard on them and that they've had to close several times for various reasons, but that they're also looking forward to closing for a two week vacation starting next week.

Then we went around the corner and got ramen. I took off everything I shouldn't be eating, which left me with basically noodles in karamiso broth (a vegetable miso broth) and tofu. But it was very tasty and, more importantly, we didn't have to cook.

I also skipped therapy yesterday. I just didn't have it in me. I made an appointment for Monday, though. I know that this is the time of year when I need to be focused on staying mentally healthy, but for the moment my physical health is demanding attention and apparently I have trouble focusing on both things at the same time.
