Happy Anniversary

Last night I was lying in bed watching an old episode of Project Runway All-Stars on my computer when Dave came in and reminded me that it was Pi Day and also our anniversary. We had both forgotten all about it. (We got married on Pi Day so that it would be easy to remember.) I suggested that we go out and get an apple pie at the McDonald's drive-through to celebrate. (It was the only place I could think of where we could easily get pie at that time of night.)

We did go out, but we actually ended up stopping at the market and getting a no sugar added blueberry pie and, to balance things out, some vanilla ice cream. (We also had a secondary reason to stop at the market, which was to pick up some soy yogurt--they were out--and cereal and wine.) We came home, had pie and ice cream, and set a reminder on Alexa for next Pi Day so that we don't forget.

Last year, we remembered our Pi Day anniversary in time to order half a cherry pie and ice cream with our regular grocery order from Whole Foods. I imagine that if we don't make a pie next year, we'll do that again.

Or maybe we'll go to Pie Town. They do have good pie there and it's a lovely, surreal place. The whole town is in the middle of nowhere and consists of a handful of people (the official population is around 180) and a handful of nondescript buildings scattered around a handful of pie shops. The last time we went, we stopped at Pie-O-Neer Pies and had lunch (the food was terrible) and pie (which was amazing). They had, like, fifteen kinds of pie on the menu and the place was packed with people just sitting around eating pie. The pie shop where we stopped had all the classics--apple, cherry, strawberry--but they also had things like raisin pie, buttermilk pie, peanut butter pie and a whole lot of cream pies. I think I had apple-pinon pie a la mode (even though I'm usually a purist about pie and don't like hyphenate pie fillings or crap mixed into the crust).

We've usually stopped in Pie Town on our way to visit the Very Large Array, one of my favorite places in NM.

The first time we went there was in 1996.

You can see four of the many radio antennas lined up in the distance behind me.
Each radio antenna is mind-bogglingly enormous. (Also mind boggling: How young was I then? Jesus.)

Dave was just as young, turns out.

Were does the time go?
