The Weekend

We've had a busy couple of days (Dave mostly,  but me too). Saturday, Dave and my brother went out for a grocery run in the morning.

We had told made plans for Saturday afternoon with my mother. She wanted us to help hang up some photos and things in her apartment, so as soon as we were done putting groceries away and having a quick bite to eat (and I had a quick shower), we headed back into town.

My  mother's new chair had been delivered before we arrived, so we moved a few things around to accommodate it. We hung up a few photos and decorative things. (Dave did most of the hammering and hanging up since he's so tall.) We spent about two hours doing that stuff. My mom had made a takeaway lunch (bean and cheese enchiladas, carne adobada, and beer bread) and she asked us to drop some off for my brother on the way home.

After we stopped by my brother's, we stopped by Dave's mother's place so that Dave could check on her. She'd been acting somewhat erratically for a couple of days and he wanted to make sure it wasn't something serious. (It wasn't.) He spent about an hour with her. (I waited in the car, reading blogs on my phone and eating my mother' beer bread.)

We came home and for dinner had the enchiladas my mother had made. For dessert we shared a bit of ice cream that my brother had sent us. It was great not having to cook (and we had enough left over for at least two more meals).

On Sunday we had made plans to visit Judi and Buzz. I wanted to bring back some things from the studio to work on at home, but the car was filled with a chair and cushions that Dave was going to take to his mother's, so my plan was a bust. Instead, we sat and chatted with Judi and Dave played with Buzz awhile. We stayed at Judi's about ninety minutes and came home via Starbucks.

The Starbucks coffee was decaf but I'm pretty sensitive to even the smallest amount of caffeine which is probably why I had so much energy in the afternoon. (It certainly wasn't because I had gotten enough sleep.) While Dave went back to visit with his mother (taking the dog with him), I stayed home and cleaned bathrooms. I hadn't cleaned the bathrooms very thoroughly in long awhile (breaking my tailbone made bending over to do things like scrub toilets and baseboards too painful but things are mended enough now that it's been mostly lack of motivation that has kept me from scrubbing toilets), so it took a long time to finish two of our three bathrooms. (The third will have to wait for another day.) While taking a break from cleaning, I did some laundry, starting one load and folding another that has been sitting in the dryer for a couple of days. I also put in an order for some cleaning supplies (glass cleaner, floor cleaner, dish soap) and household things (toilet paper, tissue) that we are running low on.

After awhile, Dave texted to say he was on his way home. We had talked about his picking up burgers for dinner but I wanted to go out to Trader Joe's. It was past our usual dinner time when he got home but he had a snack and fed the dog and cat and we went out again.

At Trader Joe's, we bought a few vegetables and way too many chips and other snacks. Seriously, one of our three shopping bags was filled with nothing but snacks. We were still planning to stop and pick up burgers for dinner but the phone app for ordering burgers was acting up, so instead of burgers we stopped for some takeout BBQ on the way home.

We didn't get home until almost eight p.m. and we weren't finished putting everything away and eating dinner until after nine (late for us). While we ate, we watched a couple of videos of Chetna (the Great British Baking Show contestant) on youtube. She was making masala potatoes and potato curry. We have a drawer full of Indian spices that I bought from Spice Walla not too long ago and I want to try some of Chetna's recipes. We do occasionally cook Indian(-ish) dishes like channa masala, aloo gobi, and muttar paneer, but I'm not so confident when making other kinds of Indian food. It can be a bit daunting sometimes to try a new and unfamiliar Indian dish and I don't have the patience to cook what seem to be complicated dishes when I'm already hungry.

After dinner, Dave went to spend some time with the cat and I went back to doing laundry. As I write this, the dryer is going with a load of towels from the bathrooms and the washing machine is going with other clothes. I have a basket of clothes that need to be folded and put away (sigh) and another basket of clothes to be washed. (I try to limit myself to two loads a day to keep from overwhelming the septic system).

I did not sleep well last night and all I want to do is go back to bed, but it would be foolish to leave a load of laundry in the washing machine overnight.

I've just started watching Chetna's videos too. I really like her way on the videos. She makes cooking seem easy. I probably need more spices and things like lentils to do more of her cooking.

Sounds like you had a good day!

Hi Helen! Chetna does make Indian food seem easy-- and it probably is with practice, at least I hope so. And it's tough not knowing quite what the finished dish should taste like. But I guess authentic or not, as long as it tastes good it's fine, right? Haha!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Hope you are having a great week!
