Failure Is The Only Option

Failure Is The Only Option

As an artist, I learn as much--or more--from failing as I do from succeeding.

Take this attempt for example.

I'm still trying to make shrine-like objects from my old journals. I made this piece and the sides buckled as the paper became saturated with the glue, but I persisted and added a small collage. Of course the glazing medium that I used caused the ink to seep out of the images I used to make the collage. And worse, the whole piece was kind of boring, so I added tiny green glass marbles. And those look not so great.

But something, maybe some perversity in me, made me keep at it.

I added a caption:

"She smiled at him; there was no innocent little girl in her face." (The glazing medium is still wet here, which is why it's so cloudy.)

I don't know. We'll see.
