Trying to Be Too Clever

These are some of the skeleton mugs, just out of the kiln. (These are only two-color mugs, black and white glaze with the design drawn on with wax resist.)

Calavera Mugs

These are just freehand doodling designs, nothing planned. I kinda like doing things that way. It's much easier for me to manage my expectations if I have none to begin with.

Calavera Mugs

The calavera designs go all the way around the mugs. I'm okay-level happy with these. The next generation are glazed with three colors (black, white, and red) and I think I'll like those much better. (See, expectations! Grrr.)

I like the evil looking guy on the bottom.

Calavera Mugs

Cute, huh?

And here's some failure:

Untitled

I was firing this just to see if the ugly stains on the outside would burn out. They didn't, but doesn't matter because the kiln this was in was crash cooled and the vase cracked all to hell anyway. (Actually, it may or may not have been the crash cooling. Lots of things can cause damage like this to pieces. It could've been too thin to begin with. It could've been that I only glazed the inside and not the outside. It could have been the kiln gods slapping my hand for trying to be too clever.)
