What's Changed?

In Arachnid News:

Today's spider sightings include a medium-sized wolf spider in the bathroom and a huge black jumping spider (my favorite kind of spider) on the wall near my bed.  Both got away from the catch-and-release efforts and remain at large in the casita.

There are tons of black widow webs on the patio and in the garden, but I didn't see any black widows while I was out. (I did spot a little blue-tailed lizard rustling around in the dried leaves near the walking onions on the patio. He'd better be careful: Gray Kitty is a known recreational lizard hunter.) Anyway, black widows are secretive little things for the most part so I doubt I'll spot any of them unless I go rooting around.

In Northern Exposure Land:

I am into the fifth and arguably the best season. I just finished watching one of my all-time favorite episodes called "Fish Story," where Joel hooks a big fish and ends up (along with his rabbi from Queens, who appears out of the deep for a chat) like Jonah, being swallowed whole. I love any of the episodes where Joel's old rabbi appears.

Pizza-ing:

For lunch we ordered pizza and wings. I ate four wings and a slice of pizza for lunch and Dave had three slices of pizza. I remarked, as we put away our leftovers, that we were a long way from our days when we could finish off a large pizza between the two of us and then eat a pint of ice cream for dessert. And I don't mean that we did that as teens. Our teenage years are long behind us, of course, and though it seemed like our eating habits would never catch up to our maturity level, it has finally happened--though to be fair, I did just polish off the wings and a couple of the smaller slices as a midnight snack.

It was Saturday.

We lazed around most of the day. Tomorrow, we'll probably head over the studio and get some work done. Our friend Kai has recently assembled a raku kiln at home and we're going to fire with him in early October, so that means getting a few things ready to do that. Should be fun.
