Busy Day

I should have spent Saturday studying, but instead I studied for a bit (while Dave was at his clarinet lesson in the morning), then we went and met up with our friend Paul and went to a movie.

We saw Batman V. Superman in an IMAX 3D theater, which, oh my freaking god, cost a million dollars (not really, it was really $50 for the three of us) and since we added popcorn and drinks, we ended up spending $80 total.

Anyway, sticker shock aside, I didn't think the movie was as bad as all the reviews are making it seem. Ok, I'll admit that I slept through the first third or so of the movie. (I don't know what it was. The movie was insanely loud--like, couldn't-hear-yourself-think loud--but its overwhelmingly low, rumbly din struck The Brain as being so much white noise, and that lulled me to sleep.)  Anyway, I liked Ben Afleck as Batman (though his chunky Batsuit brought the lulz) and I could look at Henry Cavill all day, every day. (I think he makes a great Superman, too.) I thought Jesse Eisenwhatever was not a great Lex Luthor and I wasn't particularly impressed with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The movie was too long and too loud. So wait: Did I really like it? Hmmmm.

After the movie, we went to the studio for a bit. I put another coil on the shoulders of the new sculpture and added a few things to the "pattern" on the dress. It's getting a bit top heavy, so I need to add the arms to balance the weight. The arms are going to cross in the front, but I didn't start them today because I forgot to print out reference photos.

While I worked, Dave helped our friend repair the filter on their fish pond, a harrowing task. After that, we gave Crunch his dinner and took him for a walk.

After the studio, we came home and had a snack while we discussed what to have for dinner. I needed to study, but The Brain was not having it, so we ordered a pizza and I took a nap.  I finally got up and made myself a cup of decaf coffee and sat down to study around 8:00 p.m. (It's midnight now and I have miles to go before I sleep, study-wise I mean.)

Which reminds me, it's poetry month:

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I didn't mind Batman Vs Superman either...for real. And I agree, it was loud. I didn't see it in IMAX, so don't know how that would have been...imagine it would have been too loud for me.

The jury is still out for me on Wonder Woman. I thought she had potential. I did actually like Jesse Eisenberg...But I like Jesse Eisenberg as an actor.

I've been enjoying your poetry. Despite being an English Lit person, I'm not a big poetry buff, but it is cool seeing stuff other people like.

Hi, Helen! Yeah, it wasn't the greatest movie ever, but it was all right for a popcorn movie. IMAX was SO LOUD SO SO VERY LOUD!!! I really felt like I should have brought earplugs.

DaveD liked Jesse E. as Lex Luthor, too. But I just thought the character wasn't menacing enough to make a really good villain in such a dark, heavy film.

Ah! Poetry. I'm not really a poetry buff so much either, but some of it lands.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Mmmmm, even though Cavill is young enough to be my son, and even though he is a bit too GQish for my taste in general, he is such a spectacular exception! Probably because I first saw him in The Tudors.

I ate so much cake this weekend I'm about to explode! The husband baked a cake this week and he doesn't like it so of course I have to eat it because I cannot bear to throw out good food.

Hi Carol!

Yes, Cavill is, what?--Googles--only 32?! Yikes. But still...

Cake!! Your husband baked a cake even though he doesn't like cake? Ay yi yi! That might be kind of evil--depending on the kind of cake, of course. If it's chocolate, he gets a pass.

Now I want cake. :(

Hehee!

Yeah, I chose a box cake for Easter - a yellow and pink one - and he finally got around to baking it and it's too sweet for him. He likes cake but not this one.

Sorry all this talk about cake isn't helping matters, is it?!
