Monday

Last night while I was not sleeping, I watched a handful of comedy specials on Netflix and Amazon. There's a comic I really like named Ryan Hamilton. He's got a special on Netflix called "Happy Face," which I think is hilarious. (I've watched it twice.) Then I watched a couple of Tom Papa's specials. (He's more hit or miss than Ryan Hamilton.) Then I listened to a podcast that featured a British comedian named Greg Davies. Then I read for awhile. I finally fell asleep around 4:30 a.m. (early for me these days).
I was up for awhile in the morning. I had coffee and something to eat. Then I went back to bed. All morning long, I dozed. I kept having really strange dreams but I don't really remember them.

In the evening, Dave and I went out to dinner. We set out to have Indian food, but ended up having burgers at 66 Diner. I brought half of mine home because I filled up on our shared order of green chile cheese fries. (Those things are horrible and delicious.) We came home via the Target parking lot. (We were going to go in and do some shopping, but I just could not deal with a crowd, so we came home.)

While we were home, I started the process of registering for the board exam. Almost everyone in my class has already taken it, so I'm late as always. So not only did I have to establish a new email address (my school ones will go away soon and my personal ones are not very professional), I also had to figure out how to get back into my school email accounts (my passwords had expired and I had to reset them). Then I had to register with the board and with the testing facility. Then I had to pay for a new background check and fingerprinting. Then I had to pay to send my transcripts to the board. Then I had to pay for the exam. After that, I'll have to pay for my license. The whole thing will probably run about $400, which is not chump change, but I'll be working soon, so that's good.

Did I get everything taken care of? Of course not. I hit a snag that I could not figure out, so I'm going to call my friend Hannah tomorrow and get her advice. (She took the exam at the end of October.)

After doing all that garbage,  I went back to a sewing project I had started in the afternoon. I am making a new bag with a padded interior pocket to hold my reading glasses. I am using some new fabric I got recently on clearance, a kind of dark and moody, stylized foxglove pattern. Seems appropriate for the time of year. In the afternoon, I had cut out all the panels to make the bag, the flap (it's going to be messenger style), an exterior pocket, and the bag lining, then I realized that I had cut them too narrow so I had to go back and piece them together to widen them. When we got home from dinner, etc., I added fusible fleece and interfacing to the panels. Then I sewed together the exterior pocket (and added it to the back exterior panel) and the padded interior pocket with space for my glasses, a couple of pens, and a larger center pocket for whatever.

It's slow going because I just kind of make things up as I go along (which is how I end up doing things like cutting the panels too narrow or forgetting, as I did with my last bag project, to add a zipper).

Tomorrow I'll add the zipper and magnetic closure, sew together the flap, exterior, and interior of the bag and figure out the strap. Then I'll have a new bag!

It's getting late now, 11:20 p.m., but I am not remotely tired. I got hungry again after sewing for a few hours, so I had the rest of my burger and the rest of a rice crispy treat that I bought as we left the diner. Maybe it's time to settle down for the night with some Netflix.
