Time's Squarish
Dave and Gray Kitty and I are right now ensconced in Kelly and Kevin's RV. We're not camping--it's parked in the driveway--we're out here because some minor bit of construction is going on in the casita and we are trying to keep Gray Kitty from freaking out over having strangers in the house. He is a very sensitive little guy and strangers making loud construction noises freak him out. So we're out here with him. We have two fans going to drown out the noise and also because it's hot.
Gray Kitty has been mostly okay so far.
I slept a couple of hours (after not sleeping at all last night) and woke up with Gray Kitty next to me. Dave was on a work call, so I lay in bed awhile until it got too hot. Then I got up and we opened the windows, put on the fans, and I went into the casita to use the bathroom.
The humidity level has been so low here (11% during the day) that my sinuses are dry and awful. The benadryl I took this morning dried them out even more. It feels like there are boulders up there.
Let's see what else I can complain about.
I've been dealing with a wicked case of vertigo since last Sunday. I'm a little worried about it as it was the worse case of vertigo I've ever had (I get it once or twice a year) and it's taking a long time to resolve. I spent about three days in bed because getting up and moving around made me feel like the world was trying to buck me off. Laying in bed helped with my vertigo and also helped with my neck.
The downside to laying in bed was that I couldn't really do anything else. I couldn't drive (too dizzy). I could barely go out anywhere because looking down while walking made me dizzy. I couldn't sew because looking down at the sewing machine made me dizzy. I couldn't read for long periods of time because my eyes traveling across the page would make me dizzy. I just lay there listening to youtube videos (old episodes of Jeeves and Wooster mostly). I was bored. It was boring. After a few days of that, I got up and went to therapy (Dave drove and waited in the car, practicing his clarinet). It was like my little depression vignette sans depression.
The vertigo is resolving, albeit rather slowly.
In the meantime, I've been able to watch some movies and other videos. I watched Ex Machina (it was low-budget-y, science fiction-y (robots), okay-y). I watched a movie called About Time (low-budget-y, science fiction-y (time travel), okay-y). I watched Peter Rabbit (James Corden, ugh). I watched a lot of sewing videos. (My favorites are the ones where they don't edit hardly anything out, so it takes them an hour and a half to make something.) I was also able to read, so I re-read all of The Great Brain books. I read Mindy Kaling's last book (quick read, better than her first book). I started Nick Offerman's autobiography (only ok, kind of boring). I started re-reading One Hundred Years of Solitude. (I'm going to take it to New York with me next week and finish it up). I started reading Anne of Green Gables. (I really liked the Netflix show and I'm really enjoying the novel, which I skipped reading as a child because it sounded completely uninteresting to me).
As I mentioned, we're going to New York next week. I'm going out with Dave and while he works, I'm going to wander around and hit a couple of museums, maybe visit the big library in Midtown. Then we'll meet up and have dinner together. On the two weekends we'll be there, we can do other things together, maybe hit up some larger museums. I only want to look at art when we travel, but I know that there are other things to do in NYC. Or so I've heard. Maybe we'll do some of them.
Last time we stayed in the garment district. This time we were going to stay in Hell's Kitchen, but I decided at the last minute to book a room in a hotel closer to Times Square (and closer to Dave's office). In all our NYC trips, I've never been to Times Square. Or the Empire State Building. Or Central Park. Or anywhere but museums (and restaurants) really. I was serious when I said I only want to look at art when I travel. We also will eat lots of amazing food when not looking at art.
When I get back, the job hunting starts in earnest. It's been nine months since I graduated and it's time, don't you think?
