Long Time

October 9th:

It's been awhile since I last posted. I couldn't post at work this past week because I was orienting a new colleague and that ate up a bunch of my time on the first night I worked. On the second night, I was still playing the orienter, but my orientee was more independent and since we were short staffed, I ended up working as a tech for most of the night.

We're so short staffed that at my monthly check-in with my supervisor, he said, "Please don't leave me."

So that was my work week.

I started a new quilt, which is a remake of an old quilt. I have so many new quilts that I want to work on (the glow-in-the-dark one, the "blue wave" one), but The Brain decided to remake the old quilt that is a collection of the crumb blocks that I have been working on and saving up for the last three or so years. I made one quilt from them, and it's a good quilt, but The Brain was convinced that we could improve on it. So the blocks will be finished by this afternoon and I'm contemplating tying the blocks and quilting the borders (a distinction that will only matter to quilters).

I have a memory of napping in the middle of the morning on my grandmother's bed under a tied quilt. I remember distinctly that my fingers fit under the ties, between the knot and the quilt. I must have been about three years old. (I also have distinct memories, older than the tied quilt ones, about a chenille bedspread with that amazing texture. I went looking for a chenille bedspread a few years ago and realized that they are hellishly expensive for bedspreads. Even the smallest twin size ranges from $85 to $200 dollars, which is too rich for my blood.)

October 21:

It's been a long time since I posted.

Not much to say, just wanted to say that I'm glad to hear from you again. I don't know a lot about quilting, but I get it...I'm a crocheter and when I want to get technical no one understands me!

Have a good weekend!

Hi Helen, it's good to hear from you. I've been keeping up on your blog, too, but haven't commented. Just trying to get through autumn and this election season!

I could join a quilting group, but...it's not in my nature to join groups like that. Do you have any experience with such things?

Hope you're having a great weekend!

I've joined a couple of crochet groups, one I've been in for years. It was on Yahoo, but since Yahoo is closing their groups they have moved. I enjoy that one for the most part since it is strictly crochet (or was supposed to be until we got a new member who answers every message....)

I'm in a couple of sewing (mostly sashiko or boro) on Facebook. I like them because I can see other people's work and for times when I'm busy I can put the group on snooze for a while. It can get a bit annoying when there are 25 people saying the same thing, but... I'm in a couple of mask groups too, which can be helpful when I'm at a loss to know what to do next.

I hope that helps! I know you don't do FB, but you could check out Groups:io which is where many Yahoo groups move to. There must be an index of groups somewhere?!?

Have a good weekend!
