Tropical Vacation

That is a wack-ass tropical bouquet with red birds of paradise flowers and a tiny bunch of green bananas that we picked up at Trader Joe's for thirteen bucks on Saturday. (My mother crocheted the amazing table runner under the vase and it covers most of the table top.) I wanted to have some flowers because we were having a patio lunch on Sunday with my mother, brother and aunt so I bought that bouquet and Dave picked up a bouquet at Albertson's when he went to pick up Chance's meds from their pharmacy--and then my aunt showed up with a lovely bouquet for us as well! So now we have lots and lots of flowers.

I haven't seen my aunt since the pandemic began in early 2020. It was nice to see her and to sit and to chat and gossip and joke around.  It was a hot afternoon, but we were sitting in the shade and Dave put up the mister and that maybe cooled things down a tiny bit. We had takeout burgers and fries and a strawberry pie that Dave made. It was a lovely afternoon. I told myself beforehand not to forget to take some pictures and then I didn't take a single one. But hopefully there will be other patio lunch afternoons.

It's the day before Independence Day and the weekend was filled with the faraway loud booms from the fireworks shows. Even though they're not close, the dog is a total wreck while he can hear them, so that's fun. For tomorrow night, the 4th, Dave got medication from the vet, so that should help a bit.

Dave has today off, a long weekend in observation of the holiday on Tuesday. It's been a busy weekend for him though. Today he took the dog to get a bath and then he's got a couple of appointments in the afternoon, one of which is to go and do some stuff on Judi's computer.

I phoned Judi a few days ago. We hadn't talked in a few weeks, just texted greetings back and forth. She seems to be doing okay, is excited for some travel she has coming up later in the summer.

Speaking of travel, Dave and I have started to think about taking some short trips. I'd like to do some star watching and there are some Dark Sky sites near us where light pollution is minimal so that star watching can occur. We don't have a telescope anymore, but some of the events at the sites have some available. It just seems like it's time to look at the night sky.

I've been watching a lot of cruise ship videos and while I'm not yet at the point of taking a cruise, I did see one where it's a very small group on the ship (more like a yacht, really) and, if you want to sleep out on deck, you can. Can you imagine? Of course, the ship has to be lit up so it can be seen, but to sleep out on the sea? Amazing.

A holiday sounds great! I love star gazing, the areas without light pollution are the best.

Hi Kelly! It's been years since we did any star gazing. I'm so ready to see some "nightlife"! Lol.

Just wanted to say that I love the crocheted table runner your mother made. It's gorgeous. In my younger days, I made crocheted tablecloths for wedding presents for a few people and they were such a lot of work. So beautiful to put on the table though.

Nice to see you are getting the idea to travel. Me too. I haven't been home since just before the pandemic and I really wanted to go this year. However, hubby had other ideas!!

I watch a cruise channel too, but I'm not sure if you'd like the one I watch. They are two British guys and they go all over. Their jokes are pretty bad and they mainly do big cruise lines. The channel is Cruise with Ben and David. I do enjoy watching them though.

Anyway...sorry, I haven't been reading lately. I've been moping a bit.

Hi Helen! You're going through it these days, I can see from reading your blog. Not a great time of year. Maybe you can cheer yourself up by planning a trip home?

I LOVE Ben and David's cruising channel. Those guys are so ridiculous, but I enjoy watching them. They seem like they'd be fun travel companions.

Oh good! You have heard of them! I think they are just so much fun. Their jokes are sometimes so naughty! I'd have fun with them on a cruise too I think.

It has been a bit rough this time. The last time F was in the hospital I didn't live with the MIL and I could walk/ride my bike to the hospital. I could visit him every day too, which was so much better.

Still, he'll be back in about 3 weeks, fingers crossed. Then we'll be back to fighting with each other!!

I keep looking at flights back to Canada, but the costs are quite high. I hope prices go down, but I don't know if they will. Maybe I can cruise back?!!!

I saw on the news here that hospitals in Japan are dealing with a lot of new Covid cases and so they're limiting or prohibiting visitors. F must be lonely without you to visit (and fight with--haha)! Hopefully his recovery is quick and he can come home!

If you can manage it, your mental health is worth the cost of a flight to Canada! Or maybe even just a cruising vacation? I see that there are some with American or British cruise lines that originate in Tokyo...hmmmmm...a floating vacation!
